Pot O' Gold

Irish culture in Denver seems limited to the long list of Irish-themed bars and our massive St. Patrick's Day Parade (the largest west of the Mississippi!) — but as attendees to J.K. Mullen's Irish Denver Tour will discover, there's much more to our Celtic history than booze and step dancing.

According to Bobbe Hultin, director of the Colorado Historical Society tour program, J.K. Mullen was the "quintessential poor Irish kid who came over from Ireland penniless, then came to Denver and made his fortune and made his mark on the city." And today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mullen biographer Bill Convery will use Mullen's legacy to explore the history of Denver's Irish and their impact on the city.

Spend the day gathering a little lore at the Colorado History Museum, then use it to impress your friends over a pint (or two, or three) next week on St. Paddy's Day. Admission is $55 for the general public, $45 for museum members, and includes snacks, a bus tour, lunch and more. For reservations, call 303-866-4686.
Sat., April 28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
