High Voltage

A new expo showcases vintage electronics.

When local artist Peter Illig started scouring estate sales to feed his obsession for vintage stereos, it gave his promoter girlfriend an idea for a new event. "It's sort of like a cross between a vintage guitar show, a record show, an electronics flea market, an old audio store and a radio swap meet," says Dana Cain of Denver's first Vintage Voltage Expo. "It's all about vintage electronics and music gear. There's going to be hundreds of old radios, stereos, turntables, a lot of old records, guitars."

The expo will feature about 75 vendors and a contest area where collectors can show off pieces like that classic Fender to win "voltage bucks." The Colorado Radio Collectors Club will broadcast its annual show, and there's a full roster of talks and demos, including Turntables 101, a how-to on building speakers, and a lecture about Nikola Tesla.

The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center, 10 East 120th Avenue in Northglenn. Admission is $5; kids under twelve get in free. For more information, visit www.danacain.com or call 303-347-8252.
Sun., March 25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
