It'll be wall-to-wall folk in more ways than one when the Swallow Hill Music Association's signature fundraiser, the Denver Folk & Roots Music Festival, rolls into the elegant and acoustically fine Ellie Caulkins Opera House for a night of first-class musicianship. National recording artists Bruce Cockburn and Nanci Griffith headline the musical marathon, which begins tonight at 6 p.m., but the full roster of performers will send the audience all over the backwaters of North America in the space of a few short hours. In that populist spirit, Southern Journey, featuring Emily Morgan Bates and Marta Burton, will offer a tribute to Alan Lomax; Fifth World will delve into Native sounds; and the Santa Cruz River Band heads south to the border. Local favorites Dakota Blonde and the newgrass sounds of Steppin' In It with Rachel Davis round out the evening.
