With charming, carefully constructed songs, Games for May conjures the acid-damaged genius of Syd Barrett, Revolver-era Beatles and pre-1970s Kinks. But this is no nostalgia act simply reanimating the ghosts of Christmases past. Like the Apples in Stereo over a decade ago, Games for May has drawn inspiration from the sounds and masterful songcraft of its forebears and has created something uniquely its own. The act's debut effort, The Season Is the Reason -- due to be released this Thursday, April 12, at the hi-dive, with d.biddle and Birdmonster -- serves as an impressive showcase of the band's instincts for indie-pop perfection.
