Ice Cube

Sunday, April 15, Gothic Theatre, Englewood, 303-788-0984.

"Sellout." Ice Cube might as well have the word cast in gold so he can wear it as a pendant. But rather than curse the man who once claimed to be "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" for going Hollywood in the cheesiest way imaginable, why not salute him for the extraordinarily unlikely nature of his achievement? After all, there's no one else in the entertainment firmament capable of shaking speaker systems with rhymes like "If you're a scared motherfucker, go to church!" even as he's offering clean family "fun" to movie viewers courtesy of Are We Done Yet?, currently despoiling multiplexes nationwide. Based on Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, a 1948 Cary Grant staple whose title doesn't bother trying to disguise its essential, well, blandness, the flick has all the street cred of Dakota Fanning. Not that he's acting ashamed of this money grab. Indeed, Cube is touring as the original gangsta rapper he once was -- and he's getting away with it. Ice Cube, appearing with WC, has taken selling out to a whole other level.
