Believe This

Denver's atheists won't be honoring any Christian or pagan gods today for the National Day of Prayer, but they will be getting together to celebrate their community by hosting a blood drive.

"It's also sending a message about separation of church and state," says Denver Atheists organizer Abel Francisco. "It's the same day as National Day of Prayer."

Francisco said he's trying to get his fellow non-believers to play a more active role in the community, but that there's always a fear of organizing in public because of protests from Christians. He hopes that enough people head out to the Bonfils Blood Center, 7901 Lowry Boulevard, to justify turning the drive into an annual event. Both atheists and the God-fearing are welcome to donate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Thu., May 3, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
