The Last First

For the past four years, artist, arts advocate and art impresario Eric Matelski has been presenting the monthly First Monday Art Talk at Dazzle. But all good things come to an end, and so it is with this series: Tonight’s installment is the last.

“America is a great arts place, and the idea began with a national campaign to have all these cities across the country doing first Monday art talks,” Matelski explains. “I had been to a lot of artist talks and wanted to do something different, so I came up with a talk-show format. I took the seed, planted it, and it grew in my own direction.”

At first, Matelski went to galleries for ideas about which artists to feature. “But after that, my way of choosing artists was to pick those I really liked and had admired from afar,” he says. His favorites over the past four years? Jimmy Sellers, Scramble Campbell and Joshua Hassel.

This final rendition will feature Tadd Moskal, as well as poetry and music; it will run from 7 to 9 pm at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln Street. For a full roster of the evening’s events, go to http://fmatdenver.com.
First Monday of every month, 7-9 p.m. Starts: Oct. 2. Continues through July 5, 2006
