Mr. Bergquist's Opus

"Schizophrenic" wouldn't be the word. More like multi-dimensional. Yes, that's it: The Opus Fantasy Arts Festival is multi-dimensional. "Opus is live bands, an indie film festival, costume contests, film, drama, art, literature classes and workshops, and hands-on interaction with people who have defined a generation of imagination," says Opus Arts executive director Rion Bergquist.

The weekend-long fest — born of a desire "to give aspiring artists of all art forms access to a venue at which they can promote themselves, network with peers and meet and learn from those who are professionals," explains Bergquist — begins today at 3 p.m. at the Marriott Denver Tech Center, 4900 South Syracuse Street.

Tickets are $39 for a weekend pass, $15 for a day pass and half-price for kids five to fifteen; children under four get in free. Get tickets at the door or at www.opusfest.com, where there's also a full schedule of activities, including tribal belly dancing lessons, Wizard's Chess, Celtic music, drum jams, and workshops and Q&As conducted by fantasy artist Michael Whelan and author/scriptwriter George R. R. Martin. For details, call 303-359-7073.
