Culture Feast

This weekend's tenth Aurora Asian Film Festival showcases some new feature-length films, all right. Nine of them, actually — originating from countries all along the Pacific Rim. But this year, the films are only one piece of the pie.

"We're going to really be displaying the culture that we're trying to focus on during the festival," says Jessica Miller, marketing manager for the Denver Film Society. "The films express the culture, but not everybody can see every film, so we're really trying to help everyone experience that."

Besides premiering the Vietnamese film Journey From the Fall, tonight's opening features a Thai fruit-carving demo, a sushi demo, a Filipino/hip-hop dance performance and an Asian-chef competition. Tomorrow and Saturday, the East End Arts District hosts a Summer Art Walk showcasing fine, performing and culinary Asian arts. And as if that weren't enough, there's also a free outdoor film screening, with closing receptions at The Other Side Arts and Downtown Aurora Visual Arts.

A festival pass for all films and receptions is $75; individual screening prices vary. Most films show at the Aurora Fox Arts Center, 9900 East Colfax Avenue. Get more information at 303-326-8695 or www.auroraasian.org.
