Silents Are Golden

Buster Keaton's face is practically immobile during many of his best performances, in stark contrast to the rest of his body. As one of the most athletic stars in cinema history, he performed on-screen feats at which even the young Jackie Chan might have balked, all while wearing an expression as fixed as the 1919 World Series.

Still, perhaps his most famous stunt — the moment in the short film One Week when he escapes being crushed by a house's falling facade thanks to an open window — required that he not move a muscle.

This evening's Buster Keaton Night features One Week, as well as three more silent Keaton shorts: The Bell Boy, The Scarecrow and The Playhouse. Pianist Hank Troy accompanies the fun beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Chautauqua Auditorium, 900 Baseline Road in Boulder. Tickets are $8, and Chautauqua members can get two for the price of one.
