Seeing Redstone

The journey begins in the courtyard of the beautiful sandstone Tudor-style building with 42 rooms, wrought-iron fencing and a dragon fountain. There, participants hear the history of the castle — how John Osgood made his fortune in coal and steel, and how he built the town of Redstone as a mining camp. Moving inside, they'll learn that about 75 percent of the furnishings are original, including all the fixtures — designed by Lewis Tiffany — plus the gold-leaf ceilings and red velvet walls. "It's really like stepping back in time," says Redstone Castle historian Sue McEvoy.
