Sketched Out

You'd think that life-drawing classes would be hot, hot, hot. Naked people surrounded by dozens of staring students trying to replicate the human form? Yowza! But the reality is often less than exciting: Models stare into space, pretending they're not nude, while artists sketch their bodies, pretending there's nothing sexy about studying skin.

Well, Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School — which started in Brooklyn and now holds classes everywhere from Los Angeles to Melbourne — has changed all that. Tonight at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street, Burlesque As It Was founder Vivienne VaVoom (aka Westword contributor Michelle Baldwin) hosts Denver's own Sketchy session.

"It's going to be very much like a life-drawing class, where there'll be short poses and long poses and breaks in between," says Baldwin, "and it's very much performance as well as art class. We're hoping to have drag queens and people from the fetish community, the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls — just interesting people to draw," she says. Now, that's bringing sexy back.

Stop by Lannie's at 7 p.m.; entry is $8. Participants must bring their own supplies, with all dry mediums, dip pens and watercolors welcome. For information, call 303-293-0075 or visit www.lannies.com or www.drsketchy.com.
