A Glass Act

Let's drink to sixty years of drinking at Don's.

In June 1947, Don Aymami, a half-Basque, half-Irish Denver native, bought Flanagan's Club, a joint at 723 East Sixth Avenue, and transformed it into Don's Club Tavern. He ran the place for more than fifty years before he finally passed away and his family sold the bar two years ago. But Don's (better known as Don's Mixed Drinks after the vintage neon sign out front) lives on, because Mark Berzins's Little Pub Company knows that a great dive is a true treasure. There have been a few changes — for example, you can actually see around the interior now (credit Colorado's smoking ban for that) — but this remains a classic joint. Raise a glass to Don's — and Don — at this weekend's anniversary party celebrating sixty years of drinking. The party starts today at 2 p.m. and continues through the weekend.
