Crankworx Call

I still endure family taunts almost twenty years after the day I ran my bike into a parked car and took it upon myself to splint my two "broken" pinkies back to health with Popsicle sticks and tape. My first attempt at mountain biking ended in a similar way — with branches in my hair and a sore crotch. And there is no way to splint a broken crotch.

Luckily, the spectators at Crankworx Colorado Mountain Bike Competition won't have to watch my stunts.

Today through Saturday, mountain-bike competitors — including some of the world's best freeriders — will face off on Winter Park's fifty-plus miles of trails at the first-ever south-of-the-Canadian-border Crankworx. Slopestyle, big air, downhill and cross-country contests are all on the agenda. "Crankworx Colorado is going to produce mind-blowing feats of athleticism," says Winter Park's Darcy Morse.

Also on tap: an outdoor expo and plenty of entertainment and après partying. The event is free and open to the public, with lodging and camping available on the mountain. Check out www.crankworxcolorado.com for more details.
