If Richard Simmons swallowed a fistful of hipster pills and started sweating to the indies, Gravy Train!!!! would likely be playing in the background. The Oakland-based foursome has been dishing out its rambunctious electro-kitsch sex pop and whipping crowds into frenzies for more than five years. All the Sweet Stuff, the group's latest effort on the Cochon imprint, hits the streets the same day the act is slated to sex up the hi-dive. Stuff is packed with more of the same, uh, stuff with which the act made its mark. Sure, there are lines like "Pass the Crisco/Meet me at the disco" and "When I'm hot, I'm like Niagara," but there's also a bit of aural depth to be found on tracks such as the title cut, whose fuzz guitar recalls Brian Eno's "Here Come the Warm Jets," and "Wutcha Wutcha Wutcha Wutcha Wutcha Wutcha Doin' Tonite?," which starts off like a pimped-out, pumped-up version of Kraftwerk's "The Model."
