Let Frida Ring

Who doesn't love Frida Kahlo? The woman was an icon, born to produce beauty, so it's only fitting that Denver steps up to celebrate what would have been her 100th birthday, had she not died in 1954.

Studio Bead's celebration — Beads, Braids, Brows — took place on Thursday and featured music, sangría, tamales, a Frida shrine (with such offerings as sugar skulls and bottles of tequila) and a screening of the 2002 flick Frida on the side of the building at 3180 Meade Street; a related art show will be up through July 30. Information is at www.studiobead.com.

If you missed that party or just want to give Kahlo some more love, then head to the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council, 772 Santa Fe Drive, tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. CHAC's Santa Frida celebration features an art exhibit, door prizes, food, drinks and a Frida and Diego look-alike contest. Call 303-571-0440 or visit www.chacweb.org for details.
Sat., July 21, 6-10 p.m.
