I don’t understand how my nine-year-old daughter became fixated on the overly cheerful tunes of ABBA, the sound of which has never, in all my lifetime, been wanted or even allowed in my house. She brought it home from school like a virus, I guess. Day after day she sits in the back seat of the car, earbuds planted, singing the lyrics to “Mamma Mia” and “Dancing Queen” out loud in her clear, strong, little-girl voice. Where did I go wrong?

Oh, well. It’s “Friday night and the lights are low,” and a drove of kids with ’rents like me will no doubt be among the nostalgic hordes at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison this evening when ABBA: The Tour — a tribute concert package that’s letter- perfect, right down to the bubbly harmonies and ’70s-era hair, costumes and equipment made famous by original members Benny, Björn, Anni-Frid and Agnetha (who reportedly can’t stand the sight of one another in the here and now) — performs a benefit show for KBDI-TV/Channel 12.

The show begins at 8 p.m.; for tickets, $26, call 303-296-1212 or visit http://www.kbdi.org
