Shakespearing It Up

We all want our kids to appreciate the greatest writer in the English language, but sometimes the play’s not the thing, especially for the easily distracted seven-year-old representatives of the human experience. Today in Highlands Ranch, the Shakespearean era comes alive — out of the dark theater and into the open air — for Midsummer Merriment, one of the features of the Douglas County Library’s sixth annual Shakespeare Festival. Enjoy Elizabethan characters, live music, juggling, face painting, crafts and — the highlight for those rowdy youngsters — live fencing! Admission is free, and the merry-making runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., so round up the family and get thee to Civic Green Park, at 9730 Ridgeline Road, for some classic fun.
