Double Your Pleasure

A new landscape show is divided between two LoDo galleries.

Artists have long been attracted to Colorado for its magnificent views and crisp, clear light. For Landscapes of Colorado, curator Ann Daley chose contemporary paintings, drawings and photographs that are unique to the West, giving those works a place among the state's rich art history.

With 51 artists, the exhibit was too large to hang in one exhibition space, so it's being displayed at both the Robischon Gallery, 1740 Wazee Street, and the neighboring Center for Visual Art, 1743 Wazee. "It's a great opportunity for two galleries to come together to show all this work at one time," says Robischon's Debra Demosthenes. "There's really a wide range of aesthetic approaches, from neo-traditional to contemporary realist and all manner in between."

One of the exhibit's highlights are drawings from "Over the River, Project for Arkansas River, Colorado," Christo and Jeanne-Claude's installation that will stretch fabric over the length of the Arkansas River in 2011.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at both galleries, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Robischon) and noon to 5 p.m. (CVA) on Saturday. The free exhibit runs through August 26 at the CVA and September 1 at Robischon. A panel discussion with Daley and Westword art critic Michael Paglia, who co-authored the companion book with her, will be held at the CVA on August 11.
