Foot Fetish

There was an old woman who lived in a boot. But some around town thought she was an old coot. So they all got together and they auctioned her house off and gave the money to charity, thereby rendering her homeless. And every year after that, twelve artists made new boots to commemorate that batty loon and her crusty old boot and displayed those boots on the main drag in the quaint little town of Eagle. And that is the story of Boots on Broadway. It all started with that old lady and her smelly boot.

Okay, maybe not. But the story is at least half right. There are actually twelve big cowboy boots on Broadway — Paul Bunyan big. And local artists did make them. And today they're being auctioned off in conjunction with Eagle's annual Flight Days Parade, which marks the end of the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo. Everything is there except the kooky old boot-dwelling lady, which may or may not have an effect on the prices of said boots. Proceeds from the auction go to an art scholarship for Eagle Valley High School art students, the Vail Valley Charitable Fund and the Shaw Cancer Center in Eagle.
