The Green Party

After my first year in college, I came home to find a pot of rotting food in the corner of my family's kitchen. According to my long-haired vegetarian brother, he was "like, composting, dude." Although he taught me a little more about what it takes to save the planet, it certainly wasn't sexy. That's why the GreenScene is so impressive. "This is our response to Governor Schwarzenegger's call to make the environmental movement 'hip and sexy,'" says Colorado Environmental Coalition events coordinator Courtney Krause.

The greening of Colorado starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Mile High Station, 2027 West Lower Colfax Avenue, with an open bar (isn't that kind of cheating?) sponsored by the New Belgium and Fort Collins brewing companies, treats from Strings restaurant, organic martinis from Vodka 14 and cutting-edge art from Limited Addiction Gallery. "It gets people together in a fun environment with zero waste. Everything is recycled or composted," says Krause, "and we kept it low-cost so everyone can join us in helping a really worthy cause." Tickets are $25 at the door; all proceeds benefit the CEC. For more information, check out www.ourcolorado.org.
Thu., Aug. 2, 6:30-10:30 p.m.
