"Hey, have you heard that joke about hipsters?"

"No, what is it?"

"Well, of course, youhaven't heard it!"

It's beyond cliche to say that Sputnik is ground zero for hipsters. I'm surprised that instead of carding you, they don't have a bouncer checking to see that you have the mandatory tattoos and multiple piercings — or at least a trucker's cap. But once I get past the slightly annoying hipster factor, there are many things to love about the place. For starters, there's the retro, practically obsolete photo booth — which, due to its retro obsolescence, is broken more often than not. But on the nights when the stars align and the photo booth is operational, there's nothing more fun than drinking too many cocktails and then taking goofy photos with your pals. For the first of those pre-photo-booth cocktails one recent night, I asked the bartender if she could make me a "Cosmo-naut" — but she just looked at me like I was from Mars, and instead suggested the October Surprise ($7.50), made from Pearl pomegranate vodka, blueberry schnapps and a splash of lime juice. If blueberry schnapps doesn't send you to the moon, the Persephone ($7.50), made with Pearl pomegranate and grapefruit juice, is also out of this world. So blast on over to Sputnik and prepare to blast off.
