Today, Swallow Hill Music Association joins forces with the Old South Pearl Street Association to celebrate the season with another Summerfest installment: the second annual Blues & Brews. Eight blues bands will keep the blues humming from 1 to 10 p.m.; performers include headliners the Erica Brown Band (with her signature goosebump-forming vocals) and the Tommy Thomas Band (Thomas earned his nickname “the Working Man” by being in the blues circuit since he was in short pants). And as for the latter offering in the event’s name, rest assured there will be no shortage of the social lubrication/summer-ade we call beer.

So take the light rail down to the 1200 block of Old South Pearl — north of Louisiana Avenue and south of Buchtel Boulevard — and bring a buck, which is all you’ll need for admission. It’s an all-ages show; pack in chairs, blankets and rain gear if the forecast calls for it, but no outside food or drink.
