"A freeway sign at Exit 27 says this spot is the town of Ludlow, but there's no town here, just a chain-link fence with an unlocked gate surrounding a white-walled meeting hall, a gazebo with picnic tables, and a monument that looks like an oversized Victorian grave marker." That's how Los Angeles Times reporter and author Scott Martelle starts Blood Passion: The Ludlow Massacre and Class War in the American West, his book that examines one of the most shameful chapters in Colorado history, the 1914 slaughter of coal miners and their families who were protesting working conditions. And history will come to life tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the at Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street, when Martelle reads from and signs his work.
