Talking Shop

Shoppers with an international flair can't possibly miss today's Global Market hosted by local Lutheran Family Services refugee and asylum programs. The market features an astounding outlay of exotic fair-trade goods that come from every corner of the earth, including the horn of Africa, southeast Asia, Central America and the Middle East, to name a few of the locales represented. It also doubles as a welcoming community-outreach event, featuring not only goods and services, but also a cultural entertainment showcase and a flat-fee food tent where visitors can taste from a global cornucopia of foods. "Our main goal is to create cross-cultural bridges," says LFS spokesman Anders Snyder, who encourages shoppers to learn more about refugee populations resettling in the metro area in order to escape persecution in their native countries.

Attend the market from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 East Alameda Avenue; visit www.lfsco.org for details.
Sun., Aug. 26, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
