More About

Luke Solomon has carved out a unique niche in the dance-music pantheon by spinning an enchanting, intriguing mix of tunes. He starts with a typical funky, soulful and slightly jazz-inflected deep house blueprint of laid-back beats, funky bass lines and groovy percussion. To this standard plan he adds science-fiction synth sounds, political samples, dub elements, abstract noise and goofball sound effects. It's like deep house, minimal techno and a novelty-record collection getting down at a dance party in a fever dream. What's most impressive, however, is that his mixes never sound like an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink pastiche, but rather like a totally original yet completely obvious genre of house that no one else has bothered to discover yet. It's an addictive and infectious sound that has to be heard to be believed, and you can hear it free at http://www.garageband.com/user/lukesolomon/podcast/main before Solomon stops by Vinyl, with Inland Knights — a more traditional but still excellent deep-house DJ duo — this Friday, August 24.
