Labor of Love

Longtime local runners Alan Lind and Maureen Roben, who already provide the brains and the brawn behind the Platte River Trail Half Marathon in April, fantasized about organizing a run that took side trips through the neighborhoods of Denver, but they learned that it could be a costly endeavor to go off-trail. Still, when the Lorenzen Cancer Foundation asked them to create a Denver race that would serve as one of the eight national competitions for its Pancreatica Pacesetters Running Team, they hit the ground running.

"It was one of those meant-to-be things," Roben says of the inaugural Aetna Park to Park 10 Miler, which takes an easy-on-the-eyes route through City, Cheesman and Alamo Placita parks before ending up with a party in Washington Park. What a great way to appreciate the city you're stuck in over the long weekend.

The race leaves City Park at 7 a.m.; to register (the fee is $55), visit www.parktopark10miler.com.
