As the seventeenth of eighteen children from a Honduran-based Mexican mama and German papa, it's no wonder that Carlos Mencia has race on his mind — and that he knows how to get attention.

The first time I watched Mind of Mencia, hearing so many taboos in a row made me squirm. Mencia has a brutal way of describing the state of our melting pot using ethnic stereotypes, racial slurs and anything else politically incorrect — with a little raunchiness for good measure. But nothing is sacred, and once you get over your squeamishness, it's hilarious. Catch his act live tonight at 7:30 p.m. as part of the kickoff for this weekend's Thunder in the Rockies at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. Par for the course, self-deprecating comic and Denver resident Josh Blue opens the show. Tickets to see this dynamic duo range from $27 to $50 and can be purchased in advance at 1-877-544-TIXX or www.comcasttix.com.
