Stick It to 'Em
Colorado lacrosse is down one living legend. Two weeks ago, Colorado Mammoth coach Gary Gait announced he was leaving to pursue other interests. Gait was more than just the coach who led the Mammoth to a 2006 National Lacrosse League championship in his first year at the helm; he was also the most celebrated lacrosse player of all time, breaking almost every record imaginable from most career goals to most MVP awards during his fourteen-year career playing for the Mammoth and other NLL teams. During his last professional game, the 2006 World Lacrosse Championship, Gait scored four goals in the last quarter, clinching Canada's 15-10 victory over the United States and giving him a fitting finish to a miraculous career.
Now that miracle is leaving — but that doesn't mean Colorado lacrosse is dead in the water. On the contrary, at 10 a.m. today, graduating lacrosse players from colleges around the country will vie for top professional spots in the National Lacrosse League 2007 Entry Draft at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle.
