Something About Johnny

Johnny Briggs embraced the motto "Live fast, die young" — literally; he passed away in 2000 at the age of thirty and left behind a local music scene well etched with his heavy-metal footprints and fans.

The notorious strummer of Derailed and Hell's Half Acre will be memorialized tonight at the Johnny Briggs Memorial BBQ as the two defunct bands reunite alongside fellow disbanders Los Terribles in Briggs's honor. "Johnny's life is still inspiring people," says organizer Melissa Fouch. "We know we can't bring him back, but the parts of us that are missing him will be filled up with music and laughter."

The heavy-metal hallelujah starts at 3 p.m. and also features Lyin' Bitch and the Restraining Orders, the Buzzard, Amputators, Unloader and Sinstra Vessel at the Larimer Lounge, 2721 Larimer Street. The $10 tickets benefit MaxFund and Wigs for Kids. Visit www.johnnybriggsmemorialbbq.com for more information. "There was just something so unique and special about him," says Fouch. "He left a lasting impression on everyone." Rock on.
Sat., Sept. 8, 3 p.m.
