Jersey Boys

Because the Colorado Rockies are playing meaningful games in September for the first time in recent memory, they don't need gimmicks to attract fans, as they have in years past. Fortunately, though, the team's going forward with one of its best promotions: Jersey Off Their Backs Day, which takes place following this afternoon's match-up with the Florida Marlins.

How's it work? "At the conclusion of the game, the players line up numerically," explains Rockies spokesman Jay Alves. "Then randomly selected fans who we notify throughout the game come down to the field, and the players shake their hand, give them the jersey they wore that day, and autograph it right in front of them."

That sounds like a winning combination.

Today's first pitch will be hurled at 1:05 p.m. Tickets range from $47 for infield club seats to $4 for admittance to the Rockpile. To learn more, phone 303-762-5437 or swing over to http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com.
Fri., Sept. 14, 7:05 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 15, 6:05 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 16, 1:05 p.m.
