They Might Be Giants ranks high with the kiddie set, thanks to numerous cartoon soundtracks and videos, but youngsters will not be in attendance in Boulder this Thursday. Instead, those prone to recording songs onto answering machines or wearing oversized fezzes will be lining up in droves to see TMBG's latest adventure in concert theatrics. And the act's latest effort, The Else, should provide plenty of opportunity for unexpected stage props. In what has become the norm for these less-than-normal, nasally voiced musicians, the album features quirky lyrics about taking out the trash, shadowy government figures and the birds and the bees — and the moth, replete with the usual strange instrumental moments. That's par for the course for this geeky pair of Johns, whose songs "Particle Man," "Ana Ng," "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" and "Birdhouse in Your Soul" not only opened the door for other bespectacled brethren like Weezer, but offered proof that geeks can be rock stars, too.
