Nothing Doing

Have you ever looked up "nothing" on Wikipedia? It's a six-part entry. Similarly, the enormously popular Seinfeld was a sitcom about nothing, yet ran for nine seasons. Today, Will Eno's Pulitzer finalist, Thom Pain (based on nothing) opens at the Bug Theatre. Clearly, there is something to this nothing.

The play, allegedly based on nothing, is really about everything, from a bee-sting epiphany to musings on the opposite sex. It's a glimpse into the mind of one man who's on a quest to take meaning from the void.

The one-man show, which stars Erik Tieze, starts tonight and continues through October 28. Actor/playwright Tieze is returning to the stage after a three-year hiatus, but he's preceded by a strong presence in the Denver theater scene, having had three of his plays produced locally. Directing the existential journey is Terry Dodd, who, according to Westword, had the Best Season for a Director in 2007, for his work on The Caretaker at the Phoenix Theatre and The Weir at the Denver Victorian.

The Bug is at 3654 Navajo Street. Tickets for Thom Pain are $20 and can be purchased at 303-780-7836 or www.modernmusetheatre.com.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Sept. 28. Continues through Oct. 28, 2007
