Science Sensation

Science and art are among the most powerful forces for changing the world. When the two come together, as they do today at The Wonder of Science, they can create something spectacular. From noon to 6 p.m., the 29th Street Mall, 1710 29th Street in Boulder, will host a number of entertaining activities aimed at educating the public on climate change and sustainability.

Curious New Voices, a program that teams high-school and college-aged writers with professional directors and actors, will present A Curious Climate: New Voices in Science, three ten-minute plays on the subject of climate change. The writers created the works in conjunction with scientists from the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, an internationally recognized leader in the field of earth sciences. Mothers Acting Up will present a Winds of Change parade, a participatory event aimed at sparking conversation about sustainable solutions to combat climate change. Bring kites, streamers and any other "wind art," and join in the celebration. There's plenty more going on, including a mobile planetarium, a cloud-making project, a mini-rocket demonstration and hybrid-car workshops. Representatives from seven different science labs will be on hand to answer questions about their achievements and research.
