Andy Milne

When Andy Milne began thinking about material for his latest solo album, Dreams and False Alarms, he mined the folk music of his childhood in search of songs with a meaningful, strong melodic anatomy. The Brooklyn-based jazz pianist delved into introspective renderings of tunes by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Sting, in addition to a few of his original compositions. While Dreams is something of a departure from the adventurous excursions of his groove-based band Dapp Theory and Steve Coleman's M-Base Collective, Milne still offers captivating interpretations that at times take welcome detours from the originals. The last time Milne was in town, he performed with Ravi Coltrane and Ralph Alessi. This time around, he'll start each set with solo material from Dreams and then be joined by Ron Miles and the Rehka Ohal Band for songs by Radiohead.
