The tenth annual Denver Public Library Booklovers' Ball revolves around the theme "Elements," so it's no surprise that the DPL is attempting to make the event as green as possible. The menu comprises either locally grown or organic food, the ball's organizers will compost and recycle absolutely everything they can, and Metro Taxi is on board with its fleet of hybrid vehicles. Food will be served with china and cloth instead of paper plates and napkins, and all the energy used for the evening will be offset by Renewable Choice Energy.
"We have 700 people in one place eating and drinking, and that can make a big impact on the earth," notes marketing manager Tracy Donovan. The four elements earth, air, fire and water will be present in the decor. "We don't do any programs or speeches or silent auctions," says Donovan. "It's just a really fun party. Everybody goes, eats dinner among the stacks, drinks martinis in the Children's Library, and everybody dances." The fun starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway; tickets range from $125 to $275. Visit www.deverlibrary.org or call 720-865-2051 for information.
