"Every little thing like this can help," says Jim Brown of Enchanted Grounds. "Anything to give a wider exposure to local artists."
From noon today until noon tomorrow at Enchanted Grounds, 8800 South Colorado Boulevard in Highlands Ranch, 32 cartoonists will begin the challenge of creating a 24-page comic in 24 hours. Originally thought up by leading comics theoretician Scott McCloud, the 24-Hour Comics Challenge is a national event entering its fourth year in Denver. It's free to stop by and watch the cartoonists' pencils in furious action as their owners create something original out of thin air. The artists may do whatever they want for the 24-hour period, but when the clock strikes noon tomorrow, they have to surrender their work.
With the help of sponsors, the Squid Works Comic Creator Cooperative will put out a 2007 Denver 24-Hour Comic Day anthology, which will contain the finished comics from this year's Challenge. For more information, visit www.squidworks.com/Events/d24hcc.html.
