Moon Time

Hike beneath the full moon at Barr Lake State Park.

Looking for something to do this weekend that doesn't involve ghosts, ghouls or goblins? Then steer toward Barr Lake State Park, 13401 Picadilly Road in Brighton, for tonight's Full Moon Hike: Tales of Migration and Folklore. During a short hike, park naturalists will explain how Barr Lake's animals adapt and prepare for the coming winter months and discuss prevalent myths about how animals get ready for winter. "We usually walk out to the gazebo," says naturalist Larry Zanetell. "It's about 1.3 miles, 2.6 round trip. We usually bring a telescope, and we might be able to see Jupiter." The hike will conclude on a sweet note, with hot chocolate and cookies.

Meet at Barr Lake's Nature Center at 6 p.m. Admission into the park is $6, or free for those with a Colorado State Parks pass, and there is no charge for the hike. For information, visit http://parks.state.co.us/parks/barrlake or call the park at 303-659-6005.
Wed., Sept. 26, 6 p.m.; Fri., Oct. 26, 6 p.m., 2007
