Well Fed

In search of the funniest federal employees.

Most of us don't think being audited is especially amusing — but perhaps we might if our accounts were being examined by David Waters, a tax collector who's among the participants in tonight's Denver's Funniest Fed Finals. According to event organizer Scott Shirai, the executive director of metropolitan Denver's Combined Federal Campaign, which raises funds for charitable concerns from federal employees, Waters and six others will attempt to prove that those on Uncle Sam's payroll "are equally as funny as the rest of the population."

Comedy pros like Chuck Roy, Lori Callahan and Rocky Mountain News scribe Sam Adams will be on hand. However, the stars of the show are folks such as the Department of Commerce's Erin Presley-Froemke and Claude "Butch" Stuart, who's with the Defense Information Systems Agency. They'll be encouraged to crack wise — but not to go over the line. "One of the rules indicates that the comedy is in good taste and doesn't degrade the agency that person is working for," says Shirai.

Strict regulations: Isn't that just like government work?

Denver's Funniest Fed Finals get under way at 8 p.m. at the Comedy Works, 1226 15th Street. Tickets are $12, with a portion of the price going to the CFC. Learn more at 303-595-3637 or www.comedyworks.com.
