Home on the Range

Comedy gains a foothold in Stapleton.

There's a new club in town, one with a big name for itself that's picked Stapleton, a corner of town not yet known for its rockin' nightlife, as a home. That's almost comic, but in this case, comic is a good thing: It's the nation's 22nd Improv Comedy Club — the very club originally conceived in 1960s New York by comedy impresario Budd Friedman — that's set up shop at 8246 East 49th Avenue, in the quiet midst of Stapleton's Northfield shops. Let the fireworks begin.

Expect a constant flow of quality acts to laugh it up in the state-of-the-art room with full dinner menu, providing suburban counterpoint to the already fine Comedy Works shows in downtown Denver. This weekend, for instance, it's yuks times four when the Jameson Comedy Tour comes through town with a full quartet of national talent, including Billy Gardell, Michael Loftus, Danny Bevins and Steve Byrne, performing daily today through Sunday.

Admission is $15 to $17; for tickets and information on upcoming shows, call 303-307-1777 or visit www.improvdenver.com.
