Schwartzkopff found that the celebration of music, dance and food is integral to Bulgarian village life. Planina has always made celebration a part of its performances, too, and tonight the group will go one step further by releasing a new cookbook at its Harvest Sampler concert. Everything in the book from Russian crepes to Greek lamb stew and Bulgarian cheese pastry has been kitchen-tested to make sure the old family recipes still make sense.
Admission is $20, or $17 for students and seniors; the music starts at 8 p.m. at the Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. Tickets are available at the door, but buying them in advance will help the group plan for food samples, which are included in the ticket price. May It Fill Your Bowl: A Cookbook From Planina will be available to purchase for $20. Call 303-329-6242 for tickets or visit www.planina.org for information.
