Classic Rock 101
Students introduce the School of Rock.
The 2003 Jack Black film School of Rock presented a fictionalized spin on a real phenomenon: Paul Green's School of Rock Music, which debuted in 1998 and inspired the 2005 documentary Rock School. The first institution of higher shredding, based in Philadelphia, has gone national, and tonight's concert will introduce the concept to Denver, where the school's 32nd branch is set to open in January.
Chris Soucy, manager of the local outlet, is enthusiastic about teaching kids ages seven to eighteen "how to be great musicians using a great curriculum — the rock music we all grew up listening to on the radio." To prove it, Soucy is importing students from Salt Lake City-area Rock Schools to show locals how much fun learning the classics can be.
The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue. Admission is $10, and tuition discounts and giveaways will be offered. Get info at 720-276-7625 or www.schoolofrock.com.
