Shtetl on the Range

You could say that Dr. Jeanne Abrams, as director of the Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and the University of Denver's Beck historical archive, took advantage of her position to compile her new book, Images of America: Jewish Denver 1859-1940. But no one could possibly take her to task for creating this beautiful photo history of Jewish culture in our own back yard. Featuring some 200 images, many from the Beck Archive and some not seen in print before, the book is a treasure for Denver Jews and history buffs alike.

Abrams introduces her work this afternoon at a 1 p.m. book launch in the Garden Room of the DU Women's College, 1901 East Asbury Avenue; a portion of proceeds from book sales will go back to the RMJHS. Admission to the presentation is free, and kosher ice cream will be served; to reserve your copy of Jewish Denver ($16 to $20, plus a $2.50 shipping and handling fee), call 303-871-3016.
