Bells on Parade
I know there are people who would vehemently disagree, but I think dogs in costumes are pretty darn cute. I'm not talking about winter jackets or an everyday wardrobe; that's disturbing. But when the occasion calls for costumes, why not?
The Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis calls for costumes of both the human and canine variety. The annual event, now in its sixteenth year, brings more than 2,000 people in Santa hats and elf socks to Washington Park to raise awareness and money for a cure. Angie Hager, marketing and communications manager for the Arthritis Foundation's Rocky Mountain chapter, says it's a unique kick-off to the holiday season, as well as the foundation's most popular fundraiser. Personally, she thinks that has something to do with the doggy getups. Plus, every participant gets a jingle bell for their shoelaces, so the entire park rings with holiday spirit.
Registration — $30 for adults and $20 for kids twelve and under — starts at 8 a.m. at the South High School gymnasium, 1700 East Louisiana Avenue. There's a Kids' 1K Snowman Scramble at 9:30 and a costume contest at 9:45; the 5K starts at 10:15, with the 5K Peds-N-Paws for people running with their dogs starting five minutes later.
