Longtime Colorado entertainer Timothy P. Irvin is a talented musician and, as one of this region's early importers of the Appalachian string music known as bluegrass, is considered a Rockygrass pioneer. But what really sets the man apart is the fact that he can play a mean nose trumpet. If you've never seen this phenomenon, it's reason enough to attend tonight's show at the Lakewood Cultural Center, where Timothy P. and the Rocky Mountain Stocking Stuffers will play songs from A Bluegrass Christmas, which they recorded locally in 2000. Now in its seventh year, the ten-man band, featuring some of the area's preeminent string musicians, assembles annually to perform a holiday bluegrass concert. The Stuffers have penned a few seasonal tunes of their own — a particularly clever number called "I Was There When Christ Was Born" tells the Nativity story from the stable owner's perspective, while others wax poetic about the Western winter — and, of course, they'll cover the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Colorado Christmas." The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at 470 South Allison Parkway, with additional performances tomorrow and Saturday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students/seniors, and $12 for children; get yours at www.lakewood.org or by calling 303-987-7845.
Dec. 6-8, 7:30 p.m., 2007
