All I Want for Christmas

Would you rather share the holiday season with the cinematic likes of Francis Ford Coppola, or your overcritical in-laws? If all you want for Christmas is a sneak peek into the jet-set world of Oscar nomination, then Aspen is the place to be today through January 2, when the Aspen Film Academy Screenings roll into town. "These are films released in the last quarter of the year that distributors have positioned for some kind of Academy Award. It's perfect, because people in the film industry come to Aspen for the holidays, and, unlike other screenings, this one is open to the public," says the Academy's Laura Thielen.

The excitement begins tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Harris Concert Hall, 960 North Third Street in Aspen, with The Great Debaters; later screenings include The Orphanage, executive-produced by Guillermo del Toro (of Pan's Labyrinthfame); Sean Penn's Into the Wild; and Coppola's long-awaited Youth Without Youth.

Tickets are $12; for a complete schedule and other information, call 1-970-925-6882 or go to www.aspenfilm.org.
Fri., Dec. 21, 5:30 p.m., 2007
