Lady of the Lake

I grew up in Evergreen, so for me, it doesn't feel like the holidays until I've taken a spin around Evergreen Lake on my ice skates. Luckily for me, I can still squeeze in a quick dose of wintertime exercise before I unwrap my presents this morning, because the lake is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — just enough time for me to lace up, get my ice legs back and then sip some post-skate hot cocoa in the Lake House.

Years ago, when I fancied myself an Olympic-level figure skater, I would glide and twirl my way around the ice rink's perimeter; these days, I'm lucky to keep my footing for an entire ten minutes. But it's still fun to relive my childhood. Skating fees are $4.50 to $5 (free for tots three and younger), and skate rental costs $6 for up to two hours. Call 303-512-9300 for ice conditions; call 303-674-0532 or visit www.evergreenrecreation.com/elhc.html for information and a full list of prices. The Lake House is at 29614 Upper Bear Creek Road in Evergreen.
