Mammoth Problems

The Colorado Mammoth — along with the entire National Lacrosse League — was sent to the penalty box on October 16 when the NLL and the players’ association fell short of a new collective-bargaining agreement. For considerably longer than the standard two- or five-minute penalty, the 2008 season seemed body-checked into obliv-ion. Sad days. Then on October 24, the NLL announced an agreement. “After the league effectively canceled the season, the players’ association got together with the un-ion and came to a seven-year agreement,” says Dan Rowland, media contact for the Mammoth. “It’s the longest collective-bargaining agreement they’ve ever had, which is a really good thing.”

Tonight starting at 7 p.m. at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle, celebrate the long-awaited return of the NLL with the season-opening Colorado Mammoth vs. the Calgary Roughnecks. “We don’t expect anything less than winning the NLL championship,” says Mammoth captain Gavin Prout. “With the new talent we’ve acquired and the core group who led us to the West Division title with a 12-4 record last season, we are looking strong.”

Ticket prices range from $5 to $38; for more information, go to www.coloradomammoth.com or call 303-405-6107.
