Tracks in the Snow

Head to Leadville for a week of LeadSled.

Little known fact: The winter terrain around Leadville is a sled-head's paradise, crisscrossed with snowmobile trails — both marked and unmarked — featuring picture-perfect scenery, plenty of pristine powder and a ton of family-friendly activities on and off the snow. Intrigued? Load up the kids and the Ski-Doo and get thee into the shadow of Mount Massive for the LeadSled Snowmobile Week, a High Riders Snowmobile Club-sponsored showcase of all Leadville's got to offer. The fun starts today and continues through February 3.

Featuring a fully loaded schedule of GPS poker runs, avalanche-beacon scavenger hunts, cross-country ice races and the like, the week also offers such non-motorized pastimes as tubing, skating and dog-sledding for the intrepid. Basic event registration is $50 and includes hosted rides and a Saturday-morning breakfast. For a complete list of events (and optional non-events), call 1-719-486-8456 or go to www.leadsled.leadvillecolorado.info, where you can also download a registration form and learn more about lodging packages.
