Breaking Out

Don't be fooled by the title: Space Invaders, the new show opening today at the Museo de las Américas, isn't about little green men or Roswell minutiae. Rather, it refers to what you get when you deconstruct those two simple words — "space" and "invaders." And the ten artists included in the show — a motley crew of local and international artists working in all manner of mediums — will find original ways of taking it to the streets by creating projects both inside and outside the venue's walls for the duration of the exhibit. For starters, while the creations of other participants remain in their designated galleries, Denver art couple Daniel and Maruca Salazar will set off "cholo" balloon art happenings around town, and Metapong (the Mexican duo of Leonardo Marz and Isaac Muñoz) will move from space to space hosting community gatherings.

The Museo is at 861 Santa Fe Drive. Space Invaders opens tonight with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. and continues, here and there, through June 8. Go to www.museo.org or call 303-571-4401 for details.
